Open Question: Should my boyfriend and I go to Santa Fe or Taos NM for New Year's?

We live in New York but will be spending Christmas with his family in Tucson, AZ. After Christmas, we want to take a little trip up to New Mexico together for New Year's. Neither of us has ever been there. I know it's the "off season" but we don't mind that. Just looking for some suggestions as to which place would be more enjoyable on New Year's Eve/Day.
